‘To Increase Journal Engagement’
In academic publishing, we have news today (June 4) that the Berlin-based ResearchGate and Sharjah-based Bentham Science Publishers have agreed to a partnership, part of the ResearchGate “Journal Home” program.
Six of the peer-reviewed scholarly journals from the Sharjah-based Bentham Science Publishers, in this partnership, will be exposed to ResearchGate’s readership, which the company reports to include more than 25 million researcher-members. Journals included in the new arrangement comprise:
- Current Molecular Pharmacology
- Current Medical Imaging
- The Open Dentistry Journal
- The Open Cardiovascular Medicine Journal
- The Open Ophthalmology Journal
- Current Traditional Medicine
Users will find available ResearchGate’s “version of record” content and new articles on publication, meaning that users can track the archived editions of pieces presented by the system. “Dedicated journal profiles for all included journals,” ResearchGate says, “are now active, providing key information and content from the journals, as well as uniquely enabling ResearchGate members to explore how their own network is connected to a journal—helping them to understand whether a journal is the right fit for their research.”
A
t Bentham, Gareth Dyke, who directs the Bentham Science Publishers program, is quoted, saying, “We’re pleased to be partnering with ResearchGate to bring our authors a new way to engage with readers through Journal Home.
“We look forward to seeing the results of our collaboration.”

Sören Hofmayer
Sören Hofmayer, the co-founding chief strategy officer at ResearchGate, says, “We’re pleased to see Bentham Science Publishers start its Journal Home [availability] with these initial titles.
“Journal Home offers Bentham a unique opportunity to not only increase engagement with their journals but to also understand who the community [members] around their journals are.
“These insights can enable Bentham to grow quality engagement, including attracting new, relevant authors. We’re excited to see what the partnership will deliver for researchers globally.”
One advantage that researcher-writers have in the ResearchGate context is the ability to see who is reading and citing their research.
For our readers unfamiliar with Bentham Science, it’s a publisher of science, technology, and medical content, totaling more than 130 journals. The company’s journals cover disciplines in pharmaceutical research and development; medical subspecialties; engineering; technology; and social sciences.
