The Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts at New York University’s School of Professional Studies, which as Publishing Perspectives has reported, is gearing up for its second annual Advanced Publishing Institute (API), announcing an hour-long information session online on September 18, at 12:30 p.m. ET (16:30 GMT, 17:30 BST, 18:30 CEST).

Aimed at prospective attendees, this digital session will provide an opportunity to learn more about the program structure, meet the organizing team, and ask questions about the Advanced Publishing Institute. Registration for this digital session is here.

Set to run from January 6 to 1o on NYU’s Greenwich Village campus in New York City, the Advanced Publishing Institute enters its second year as a successor to the Yale Publishing Course, which ran from 2010 to 2019 under the direction of Tina Weiner.

The five-day intensive program is designed for mid- to senior-level publishing professionals who want to enhance their leadership skills and gain insights into the evolving publishing landscape.

Andrea Chambers

Andrea Chambers, associate dean at NYU’s Center for Publishing and Applied Liberal Arts, says that the Advanced Publishing Institute’s 2025 program “will focus on leadership and management strategies; the synergy between publishing and other media; and the challenges, opportunities, innovations, and disruptions facing publishers in this ever-evolving business environment.”

Speakers set to share their expertise include David Shelley, CEO of Hachette Book Group in the United States and Hachette in the United Kingdom; James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble in the USA and managing director of Waterstones in the UK; Madeline McIntosh, CEO and publisher of Authors Equity and the former CEO of Penguin Random House USA; and author and bookseller Emma Straub. The roster of speakers is here.

The 2025 NYU Advanced Publishing Institute curriculum will cover topics shaping the publishing industry, including international trends in audio publishing; the creator economy; community-building among book lovers; practical applications of artificial intelligence in publishing; data-driven marketing strategies; and the future of publishing as envisioned by industry experts.

Early bird registration for the NYU API 2025 currently is open until October 13, and group discounts are also available for organizations sending multiple attendees.

More information about the 2025 program and registration are available on the NYU Advanced Publishing Institute site.
