Bloom Germany Starts with Sophie Lark
The United States-based publisher Sourcebooks has announced this week that its romance imprint is making forays into the German and Brazilian markets.

Bloom Books, in both cases, is working in partnership with parts of Penguin Random House, which now, as our readership knows, owns a 52-percent majority stake in Sourcebooks.

In Germany, Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe, of course, is the partner for a release of Kingmakers: Year One by Sophie Lark in a translation to German by Martin Winkler.

That edition, published near the end of August in paperback, lists as having a considerable 512 pages, a weighty read described by the publisher on retail sites as “a red-hot dark romance with colored book edges.”

The sales copy, in translation, reads, “A ruthless mafia university is no place for the delicate and gentle Cat. She has survived her first year of study, but at the price of her innocence. Cat has done something terrible, and Dean Yenin has seen it. He offers her a devilish deal: his silence and his protection … if Cat belongs to him.”

It appears that the second volume of the “Kingmakers” series has also been released in German as of mid-November, at 448 pages.

Details provided to Publishing Perspectives indicate that the new German initiative for Sourcebooks’ Bloom Books calls for the imprint to release a potential 14 titles by the end of 2025, including the rest of the Lark “Kingmakers” series, the first installment of which had support from retailers Thalia and Hugendubel.

Another series from Lark is called the “Sparrow and Vine” series and books by Piper CJ are also expected to be part of this first round of Bloom Book titles from Verlagsgruppe. As you’ll remember, Penguin Random House worldwide CEO Nihar Malaviya appointed Christian Jünger this summer to be the new CEO of Verlagsgruppe.

In a comment on the arrangement, Matthias Aichele, PRH Verlagsgruppe senior vice-president for audio, strategic, and digital development, is quoted.

Matthias Aichele

He says, “The launch of Bloom Germany marks an exhilarating new chapter, allowing us  to better serve authors and readers.

“The positive feedback from our partnership has been overwhelming.

“We’re thrilled to unveil a lineup of exciting new books that will captivate readers across the German-speaking world.”

Bloom Brazil Opens With Scarlett St. Clair

Beginning in February, Sourcebooks will use a new Bloom Brazil partnership to begin releasing Portuguese editions of titles in Scarlett St. Clair’s “Hades x Persephone” series. Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Half-Blood, and Lucy Score’s  Story of My Life are also scheduled.

In that case, the in-country company is Paralela, an imprint of Companhia das Letras, in which Penguin Random House took a majority stake in 2018, as announced by then-worldwide CEO Markus Dohle.

Dominique Raccah

Commenting on these new international developments, Sourcebooks publisher and CEO Dominique Raccah says, “It’s so exciting to be helping these authors grow their businesses internationally.

“This model has made such a difference for our authors in  North America, and we’re thrilled to expand our innovative Bloom program into two of the world’s largest romance markets through our partnerships with Penguin Random House Verlagsgruppe and  Companhia das Letras.”

Christa Désir

And Christa Désir, the editorial director of the Bloom romance line, says, “As our authors continue to connect with … it’s become clear that fandom is a truly international phenomenon, and the universality of love stories crosses every border.

“We’re so excited to launch Bloom imprints with our German and Brazilian partners, which will allow our authors to continue creating meaningful touch points with readers” in many parts of the world.

Sourcebooks report that its international work has increased 200 percent in two years.
