Wiley ‘Advanced Portfolio’ Journals
In an announcement today (October 1), Wiley has announced that two of its six new journals added to its “Advanced Portfolio” will be focused on artificial intelligence research.

Wiley refers to its Advanced Portfolio as a series of journals in material science, physics, and engineering communities, and says it wants to expand that into “new areas of study in the life and health sciences.”

Flagship journals under the “Advanced” branding are Advanced Science and Advanced Materials, and the list, which Wiley refers to as a portfolio, comprises 22 journals.

The new adds to the list are to total six journals in health and life sciences, “such as cell and molecular biology; oncology; neuroscience; and plant science. They’re expected to be added to the group by the end of 2026. Not only AI but also chemistry is to be a topic in this expansion.

Allyn Molina

In a comment on the news, Allyn Molina, the group vice-president of publishing development at the company, is quoted, saying, “Global challenges related to public health, the climate crisis, and food security are creating new imperatives for how science is generated and applied.

“Leveraging the Advanced Portfolio’s … success across the physical sciences, we aim to provide researchers with a cross-disciplinary advantage, which will help drive real-world impact ranging from improved treatments for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases to engineering innovations that combat climate change.”

The publications related to artificial intelligence are to be titled Advanced Intelligent Discovery and Advanced Robotics Research. Wiley reports that it expects to open those journals by the end of this year.

In chemistry, Advanced Synthesis and Catalysis are to be available in January 2025.

Kirsten Severing

Kirsten Severing, editor-in-chief of Advanced Science, is quoted, saying, “With a legacy of success spanning more than three decades, we look forward to both extending our physical science offering and expanding into new disciplines to deliver value for researchers.”

Wiley opened the Advanced-branded group of journals in 1988 with Advanced Materials. The series describes itself as carrying research with real-world applications.

The Advanced group has a new URL on the Wiley Online Library site, a “refreshed social media presence,” and a new “brand identity”—a term usually used to refer to a logo and various collateral materials—all of which can be found here.

Wiley is scheduled to exhibit at Hall 4.0 C18 at Frankfurter Buchmesse (October 16 to 20).
