University of Hong Kong’s CERC Has a Partnership With Routledge

Two Series in Comparative Education
As many Publishing Perspectives readers know, Routledge is a brand of the humanities and social-sciences publisher Taylor & Francis. On Tuesday (May 21), Routledge and Taylor & Francis announced that they  have a partnership to produce two established book series with the University of Hong Kong’s Comparative Education Research Center (CERC).

  • One series is called CERC Studies in Comparative Education.
  • The other is called the CERC Monograph Series.

The Hong Kong CERC Studies program was opened in 1997 and publishes not only Asian scholars but those from outside the region as well. The monographs series covers educational trends and debates, the intent being to inform educational policy and practice.

As part of the new agreement between Routledge and the Hong Kong program, the publisher is expected to “support further development of both series by working with the CERC series editors to attract the most innovative and impactful content in comparative education, as well as highlighting them as publishing venues for authors in the publisher’s world-class education list.”

Mark Bray

Routledge and CERC have announced that the first book to be published under the new partnership will be by Michael Crossley, emeritus professor of comparative and international education at the University of Bristol in England.

In a comment on the new arrangement, Mark Bray, the UNESCO chair in comparative education at the university, is quoted, saying, “As the founder of the CERC Studies in Comparative Education, I’m glad that this new chapter for the series begins with Routledge as its co-publisher.

“Routledge has an excellent reputation, and the CERC team looks forward to the collaboration.”

Katie Peace

Speaking for Routledge, its senior publisher for the Asia Pacific division, Katie Peace, speaks of the company’s pleasure in “establishing this new co-publishing partnership with CERC.

“The two series are already well established and a great fit with Routledge’s world class education research list.

“We look forward to future publications making a significant contribution to the field of comparative education.”

Yang Rui

The dean of the education faculty at the University of Hong Kong, Yang Rui, says “The partnership between Routledge and CERC highlights a shared commitment to promoting academic excellence and facilitating the dissemination of impactful research internationally.

“The two CERC-Routledge book series promise to be valuable resources, providing platforms for cutting-edge research that can benefit students, scholars, school leaders and policymakers.

“Publications from these series will be a catalyst for thought leadership in Asia and internationally.”

Nutsa Kobakhidze

The director of the Comparative Education Research Center at the university, gets in a line of support, for the partnership with Routledge “as it marks a significant step towards advancing the field of comparative education.

“As we look forward to the publications that will emerge from this partnership, the series will contribute significantly to academic discourse, offering new ideas that push existing intellectual boundaries.”

In the US News and World Report rankings of 2022-2023, the University of Hong Kong was given a world No. 1 ranking in educational research.
