‘It will be my mission to seek out and share the widest array of perspectives.’
Today, Andrew Richard Albanese joins Publishing Perspectives as editor-in-chief, succeeding Porter Anderson who passed away a few weeks ago.Albanese is a long-time publishing reporter, widely known for his in-depth coverage of the industry’s most ground-breaking stories, including ebook price fixing, copyright issues, the open access movement, protection of intellectual property, the recent surge in book bans, and the ongoing impact of politics on the US and global book market.
Albanese said of the new role, “I’m humbled by the opportunity to join the team at Publishing Perspectives and energized to return to the international publishing stage.
Over my three decades covering the book business—including 10 years managing Publishers Weekly’s show dailies in Frankfurt and London—I’ve learned so much from so many outstanding publishing professionals from all over the globe. And it is that experience that will guide my work. For me, the name says it all—Publishing Perspectives. It will be my mission to seek out and share the widest array of perspectives as we all, together, embrace the challenges and opportunities of a 21st century book business.
At the same time, I’m deeply saddened that I won’t have the chance to do this work alongside Porter Anderson. Porter carved out a singular niche. Porter is, in a word, irreplaceable. But I promise that I will do my very best to carry forward his commitment to the global publishing community.”
Albanese will continue the goal that was set out in the founding of Publishing Perspectives – to provide international publishing professionals with essential tools, resources, interviews, and events that will help them navigate their day-to-day work while also forecasting the road ahead.
Note: Albanese will retain his role as editor of the media site Words & Money, which is focused on centering the role of libraries in the business of publishing.
