This month’s Rights Roundup features a winter rom-com, an existential journey, and discovering what fungi can teach us.

Earlier this week, the Latvian Literature platform announced an open call for foreign publishers and translators to apply to receive a grant for translating and publishing Latvian literature in other languages and markets.

The goal of “Support for Foreign Publishers Publishing Latvian Literature” is to support the publication of great Latvian prose, poetry, drama, journalism and children’s literature beyond the borders of Latvia, financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia. In 2025, a total of €230,063 in grants were awarded to 101 foreign publishers and translators.

Any foreign publisher or translator is eligible to apply for the grant. Applicants can receive up to €2000 to cover book production costs.

The deadline for applications is February 16, 2025. The submitted projects will be evaluated by a jury of experts. The projects receiving financial support will be announced till March 14, 2025. For more information, visit the website here.

The Holiday Grump is the newest novel by Finnish–New Zealand romantic comedy author and illustrator Enni Amanda. Rights for all titles are available.

These warm, funny, real life–grounded romantic comedies are set largely in New Zealand, where Enni herself lives, and small-town communities. Her stories often feature fake dating, enemies to lovers, second chances, small town charm, and holiday romance energy. The books are originally written in English.

Trained as a graphic designer, Enni designs and illustrates character-forward covers for romantic comedy and romance, and her visual background carries through into her fiction. She later studied filmmaking and spent years writing screenplays. She brings that cinematic sensibility to her novels through vivid locations, wanderlust-inducing storylines, and clever banter. Together with her husband, she also co-founded Uneton48, the 48-hour filmmaking competition in Finland.

Enni’s work has been featured on the TODAY Show. When she’s not writing, she’s usually drawing, spending time with her boys, or trying to learn something insanely hard, like pole fitness.

In the darkness of winter on the first day of the year, Lea Korsgaard is making a list. She has set out to see all Danish butterfly species in a single year. The list of butterflies takes her to landscapes she never knew existed, shaped by the wind and by the sea. She walks on ancient seabeds and hills made of algae shells. The quest also leads into the world of books, philosophy and mythology and the biggest question of existence: What are we living for?

Combining nature writing, philosophy, myth, and science, The Butterfly Season is a luminous account of one woman’s quest to see all sixty-four species of butterflies native to Denmark in a single year. Part field diary, part mythological tapestry, part existential reflection, Korsgaard’s journey unfolds across seasons and geographies, through meadows, marshes, and ancient coastal lands, as she discovers the mysteries and miracles of the natural world.
